TBILISI, Oct. 15 (Xinhua) -- A long-term election observation report released Monday by the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe(OSCE) described Georgia's presidential campaign atmosphere as notably calmer.
The OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights Election Observation Mission compared the environment of this year's pre-election campaign with that of last year's legislative polls.
The OSCE mission took into account the sitting Georgian government's announced intention to deploy all government resources to ensure a free and fair electoral campaign.
It also noted that a tense political cohabitation between the ruling coalition Dream-Democratic Georgia and the previous ruling party United National Movement marked the campaign.
The OSCE mission said in its interim report that though the campaign has been low-key, the number of rallies has picked up since late September.
The 2013 Georgian presidential election has been set for Oct. 27, currently with 23 candidates. In all, 54 Georgians applied to run in the race.
The South Caucasus country has so far held five presidential elections since its independence in 1991. The previous four elections each had six candidates, while last election in 2008 had seven.
