Washington, Sep 4 (Prensa Latina) The majority of U.S. citizens reject President Barack Obama's plans to carry out air and missile strikes against Syria, revealed a poll released today.

The poll by the Washington Post daily and ABC television network showed that 59 percent of the surveyed are against those military operations against the Levantine nation, while 36 percent support them.

However, questioned if the U.S. should intervene in Syria along with the United Kingdom, and France, 51 percent of the surveyed were against and 46 percent were in favour of the intervention.

About seven of every 10 surveyed consider that Washington and its allies should not supply weapons to the armed groups who try to overthrow the government of President Bashar Al Assad by force, while 60 percent say that The White House must have the UN authority before carrying out a military attack against Syria.

Obama seeks the Congress support, which will begin sessions next Monday, in order to discuss the aggression against Damascus, accused by the U.S. of carrying out an attack with chemical weapons against the civil population last August 21. The Syrian Government denies those allegations.
