HARARE, Sept 4 (Bernama - The Movement for Democratic Change (MDC-T) party has rejected the final report of Southern African Development Community (SADC)'s Election Observer Mission (SEOM) validating Zimbabwe's July 31 polls as free, fair and credible.
SEOM leader Tanzanian Foreign Minister Bernard Membe on Monday delivered the final report which stated the Zimbabwean election had been held in a credible manner, Zimnbabwean news agency New Ziana reported.
But former Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai's party said the mission had failed to take note of various irregularities which it deemed were too many for the election to be given credence.
In a statement, the MDC-T argues that failure by the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission to provide the electronic voters roll had also tainted the elections.
"The MDC notes with grave concern the report's failure to properly put into context the ignomity and magnitude of problems presented by the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission's failure to avail the voters roll to candidates on time," it said.
"The report is also silent on many other irregularities such as chaotic voter registration, shambolic special vote exercise, fake voter slips, busing of voters, and high number of assisted voters."
The MDC-T further accuses SADC of endorsing the elections it claims were rigged in favour of President Robert Mugabe's Zimbabwe Africa National Union -- Patriotic Front (Zanu-PF) party that won the elections.
"The MDC position is that the just ended elections were not free, fair and credible and we demand that fresh elections which meet SADC and international standards be held," it said.
The SADC Parliamentary Forum, SADC Electoral Commissions Forum and the African Union (AU) observer team have also endorsed the polls.
