Cairo, Oct 3 (Prensa Latina) The foreign policy chief for the European Union, Catherine Ashton, is beginning her second day today as mediator here, meeting with Hezam El Beblawi, acting prime minister of Egypt.
The results of yesterday's meetings between Ashton and Amr Moussa, president of the committee drafting a new constitution, Nabil Fahmy, acting foreign minister and high level leaders of the Muslim Brotherhood (Islamists, MB), remain unknown.
In yesterday's meeting, Ashton and Fahmy analyzed European cooperation and aid, investments, trade and the conflict between Egypt and Ethiopia over the construction of the large Renaissance dam, said an official communique.
Ashton's most recent action here as part of her three day visit was a meeting with MB high-level leaders Amr Darrag and Mohamed Ali Bishr, where they insisted on Morsi's legal investiture as president and demanded his reinstatement.
Ashton is proposing a program aimed at normalizing the situation, based on releasing imprisoned MB leaders and holding elections, but she has refrained from proposing Morsi's reinstatement.
