Caracas, Apr 15 (Prensa Latina) The majority of voters in 16 states of the country fully supported Venezuela's President elect Nicolas Maduro during the April 14 elections, official sources informed today.
According to the National Electoral Council (CNE), right-wing candidate Henrique Capriles was only supported by eight states.
The figures provided by the institution show that Maduro was supported for more than 65 percent in Portuguesa, while in the states of Apure and Cojedes, the candidate received 61,21 and 61,15 percent respectively.
The states of Delta Amacuro, Guárico and Trujillo registered figured higher than 59 percent, while the Distrito Capital, Amazonas, Aragua, Barinas, Carabobo, Falcón, Monagas, Sucre, Vargas and Yaracuy show a percentage higher than 50.
Capriles, who "has been defeated two times in presidential elections", was supported by the states of Anzoátegui, Bolívar, Lara, Mérida, Miranda, Nueva Esparta, Táchira and Zulia.
Maduro received 50,6 percent of the votes (7,505,338 votes).
So far, preliminary data show the turnout for the elections reached 78,71 percent.
